Where did the idea come from?
The idea for Dáil na nÓg comes from the National Children's Strategy 2000 - 2010 which is looked after by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs .
Approximately 2,500 children and 300 adults participated in a consultation process feeding into the preparation of the National Children's Strategy 2000 - 2010. The National Children's Strategy was then published by the Government in November 2000 and is a plan of action to improve the lives of all children, that is everyone under the age of 18, in Ireland over the next ten years.
The Department of Children and Youth Affairs organised another consultation process with young people in early 2011. The aim of this consultation process was to inform the next National Children's Strategy which is currently being developed.
