formatting spacer Dáil na nÓg 2011 a great success!

Dáil na nÓg's national sitting was held on Friday
November 18th 2011 in Croke Park Stadium, Dublin.

About 200 young people from all over the country as well as over 80 volunteers and others took part in the event, all of whom helped to make it a sucessful and enjoyable day!

The young people discussed the theme 'Strengthening the Voices of Young People through Comhairle na nÓg' in a number of small group sessions.

They then came up with various suggestions on how Comhairle could be improved at a national and local level and these were put forward to a vote by all delegates later in the day.

During the voting session, the most popular action on how to improve Comhairle na nOg locally was:

'The County Manager (should) implement a system where no decision affecting youth can be made without the consent of the Comhairle.'

The most popular action as voted by the young delegates on how to improve Comhairle na nOg nationally was:

'Dáil na nÓg should be invited to attend Dáil meetings when issues regarding young people are being discussed.'

As part of the day the young people also engaged in lively Questions and Answer sessions with the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Frances Fitzgerld TD as well as policy makers with responsibility for Comhairle na nÓg at a local and national level around the country.

A big thank you to all the volunteer facilitators, note-takers, chairpersons and others who helped to make the day a success, and in particular thank you to all the young people who were there for their enthusiasm and participation!

Pictures from the event and of the Comhairle groups who attended, along with the full results from the electronic voting session are now available!
